I think it's because conservatives see him as someone that gave them their youth back. Which saved the idea of a family for a lot of parents worried their son or daughter would go off to college and come back hating them.
I don't agree with that analysis of what happens, but some are terrified.

Well obviously because if they did it, the republicans would have to break an even worse norm with they inevitably took the next step.... I assume. It's stupid, but the only reasoning I can possibly think of that isn't delusional.
