We attended a fantastic High Tea event with the Islamic Arts Society in Houston, TX, yesterday. Their goal - to build bridges between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities in Houston and beyond - is a good reminder:

An interesting turn of events for OpenAI, the architect of today's modern AI landscape... they started as a nonprofit with safeguards to promote safe, equitable access. The CEO recently announced plans to abandon their nonprofit mission in favor of for-profit, to many's dismay.

Today we tested Community Microphone (QR code -> click to record voice -> AI analysis) with Arabic speakers. Early results look good! This is a milestone; LLM's and other ML infrastructure can be quite anglo-centric.

Plan is to deploy in Egypt. I'm stoked. #CommunityMic #PublicHealth #SDoH

The loss of federal dollars in the US will touch every non-profit one way or another.

Operations directors - shore up NOW with solid cloud systems (no more spreadsheets) and AI before it gets tough. They're not magic bullets, but they can save TONS of time when budgets start to get tight.

2. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Organizers have been in these spaces for years. See what is already happening and how you can help.

3. Don’t feel guilty for taking care of yourself. Step back then rejoin when ready.

Climate stress puts huge strain on lower resourced communities from an economic and social cooperation perspective. We see this acutely in rural Kenya, and I'm curious how that compares to the southern US. I'm also curious if a "flourishing community model" (link below) can address US concerns.
