I'm reminded of someone making fanart of his arrest with him wearing a fursuit. It's sadly lost media now either from the guy deleting the pic or it got reported.

I personally believe it’s because Hollywood got too lazy. My friend refused to watch any modern horror movies mainly cause it doesn’t have the same atmosphere with the tone and lighting and that they only want to use the “past” for nostalgia pandering without understanding what makes it scary.

I am interested in horror movies taking place in modern day or this decade but for it to work, Hollywood would need to allow 100% creative freedom and given how they care about profits over creativity, it’s likely not going to happen.

I think with horror media in general, having it take place in modern day will have it aged poorly not as it being dated but more of unexpected real life tragedies impacting it. Besides, the 2000s was a trend for movies to commentate on the real world after 9/11 and Hollywood moved passed that.
