And so I go into the woods. As I go in under the trees, dependably, almost at once, and by nothing I do, things fall into place … my mind loses its urging, senses its nature, and is free.- W. Berry

And as a fan of exact language “This is siphoning labor just for a casual argument just so you are potentially convinced of something” is a great sentence. Not being sarcastic. Great way to describe social media in general.

Can’t argue with that. But imperialism and fascism are words with definitions. Using them to describe whatever one doesn’t like renders them meaningless to describe and combat actual fascism that is ascendant. I’m not defending NPR, I’m objecting to the reckless misuse of language.

Fair enough. It would be nice for the OP to show some examples of NPR explicitly pushing fascistic propaganda. Or perhaps notes from the meetings where they discuss promoting imperialism. I’m open to be persuaded. Being overly cautious and milquetoast isn’t the same as being Goebbels.

No way. I’ll have to look that up.

Bluesky is a very strange place. Enjoy it but a good reminder that the internet has melted people’s brains on every side of whatever aisle still exists.

And yes I know you’re not giving financial advice. But interesting stuff for sure.

You’re posting the exact stuff I need to hear today. One feels like a moron buying when you’re sure a correction is coming but perhaps not. Thanks.

I know this is true but somehow having the cash there in the accounts makes me feel better. I’m sure economists have a name for this kind of stupid behavior.

I see it more as the hands of dying children reaching out of the grave and grasping at a last chance for life on a dying planet but that’s the beautiful thing about art—we make our own meaning.

Grew up with no cable or broadcast tv and 6 or 7 vhs tapes. Probably seen this 500 times.

Hard to pick out the most nightmarish figure in this panopticon of botched plastic surgery but the H.R. Giger-inspired FIFA peace prize statue being on the desk is surely the funniest bit.

If the Guardian is going to claim there was a backlash to the ad maybe they could find one example of the backlash. Admittedly, it will be hard since it never happened and was completely made up by right-wing podcasters.

Well said. Kids these days don’t read enough Vallee. The mystery of these phenomena give me hope in dealing with the ceaseless bad news from the “real world”. Something else is going on, something deeper and stranger than we know and that means there’s much more to life than the daily tragedies.

Amanita M.’s have become popular for some reason. I trust the hundreds of years of reports of how bad the trip is so haven’t tried them myself.

Not with that attitude.

Holmes had it right. A violin, a cozy chair, a solution of cocaine and a hypodermic needle and a ball of opium. The simple things for bleak autumnal evenings.
