Rare "Extreme" severe weather risk from SPC. This highest risk level only gets forecast about 2-3 times a year. This is due to a very high risk for tornadoes around 30%, which could be long track and large violent tornadoes. 1/2

Completely agree. None of the distracting flare that is usually included. I didn't have to decipher which of the many colored boxes on the screen was the timeouts remaining marker. Super easy to tell which team had the ball. Liked the highlight of key stats in the corner. More like this please!
New Fox chyron is excellent.

Team names: huge.
Score: huge.
Logos: none. Colors say enough.
Needless chrome: none.
Timeouts remaining: prominent but not distracting.
Down and yards to go indicator: conveys which team has the ball.
Typography: classic, legible, bold, timeless.

Outstanding design.

The snow❄️ chances continue to trend down📉 for our area and the Carolinas as a whole. The combination of a very suppressed storm track well to the south and dry air will make it very difficult for snow to make it inland. Cold temps are the big story, not snow. #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc

So apparently Bluesky does have something in common with Twitter/X: you should never leave your "Following" feed unless you just like being showered with the worst examples of humanity the algorithm can offer. Wow.

⚒️🧪 If you got a tsunami warning after today's NorCal M7.0, it shows that systems are working!
The odds of a big tsunami from a quake this size - especially one with horizontal fault movement - are low. But shaking can cause landslides, which can cause local tsunamis. Be safe and heed that warning!

This post outrages me and confirms my priors, so I'm going to share it without looking into it ;)
When you see a post that outrages you:
- You're more likely to share it without stopping to check if it's true
- It's statistically more likely to be false or misleading

Wrote about a new study in Science that finds misinfo thrives in part because social media optimizes for outrage: wapo.st/3D0waHZ
Analysis | Outraged? You’re more likely to share misinformation, study finds.
Research sheds light on viral falsehoods as a separate report finds foreign disinformation plagued social media in the 2024 election.
