Is it easier to access the areas you need to?

I think you might have to allow me to DM you. You're grayed out in my DM screen.

I must note, "frustum" would be a great Scrabble word.

Vu=0.281D^1.91 * H^1.02
where Vu is volume underbark, D is diameter breast height and H is height to tip. That formula was from the Tree and Forest Measurement book and the author based this formula on calculations for 8 different species around the world. Does it jive with formulas you've used?

That would be great! You jogged my memory mentioning taper. I looked back over emails about the calculations I did then and I think it might have been a formula based on multiple species taper calculations.

I haven't tried those! This was a purely amateur project. I used a sewing tape to get circumference then divided by pi to get diameter!

I got a book from UNC's library called Tree and Forest Measurement so I could calculate the amount of wood I was getting out of a tree.

GIS is my career, actually. I started following you on that other platform because I was interested in forestry. In an amateur way. I was renting a house on property with a few acres of woods. The house had a wood stove so I was cutting firewood. I got interested in forestry calculations.

If you're having fun that's the best! I've used Grass in classes before, but I haven't tried QGIS.

Did you give up on ArcPro or just exploring new options?
January 15, 2025 at 2:55 PM
That's a good idea.
