Despite being a vital service many rely on, social care often fails to reach those who need it most due to the all too prevalent focus on profit.

Social cooperatives are a democratic model for care that places the needs of recipients above any notion of extreme self-enrichment.

In Italy and Quebec, social or solidarity co-ops that enable “clients” to be co-creators of services are now common. Might the United States follow their lead?

The "social media ecosystem" looks like this...

creation =
content creators ->
platform technology ->
attention algorithms ->
advertising engines ->
data harvesting ->
consumption = YOU

The "food system" in the U.S. looks like this...

production =
agriculture ->
processing ->
distribution ->
retail (grocery) ->
consumption = YOU

At each phase, there's a company. Some are co-ops, others are shareholder corporations.

It's time to give users, not corporations, control over the internet.

If you’ve worked with me in the past, or are familiar with my work - I would appreciate your references in this thread.

Thank y’all!
Hey friends - unfortunately I’ve got some bad news coming out of paternity leave.

Yesterday, two weeks before my wife was to return to work, she was laid off with a fairly minimal severance.

That means I’m looking for client work quite urgently.

Introducing deep funding. Two key ideas:

1. Value as a graph: instead of asking "how much did X contribute to humanity?", ask "how much of the credit for Y belongs to X?"
2. Distilled human judgement: an open market of AIs fills in all weights, human jury randomly spot-checks them

There should be a Better Business Bureau / Consumer Report but specifically for tracking public complaints + court cases for “AI” companies, founded in consumer* advocacy and protection.

Who is building this?

CMV - corporations shouldn’t be immortal and constantly should face the threat of general public vote for dissolution (+ intellectual property release to the commons)

In my futurist vision, corporations should only hold a maximum copyright for 28 years.

After that, it’s up to market competition.

A 95 year copyright term essentially ensures a whole generation of people will be born and die before corporate innovation is made public.

I learned in business school that economies are guided by a “free hand of the market” and informed by “rational economic actors”

This sounds so cute and objective - but I think it’s misleading.

I think nobody wants to talk about the “G” in ESG.

To do so would be to question the underlying power dynamics of founders, shareholders, and the board. Unpopular!

“E” is overweighted and mostly just greenwashing, and “S” is chilled because of our corporate litigious nation.

“Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."

Without looking it up, who do you think said this?

You may be surprised.
