I know several people who've done it (not for that instrument). For youngish people, it's both an adventure and a mini financial windfall (compared to grad student/post-doc salaries) b/c the pay is essentially 100% profit (no rent, no groceries, nothing to spend money on).

I welcome (and engage in) criticism of the Democratic Party and the Jones Act, but characterizing anything the party has done in the last 30+ years as "incessant deference to unions" is insane.

Personally, the only real hold Twitter had on me was a sense that I might "miss something" by not being there. With the election over, that fear seems muted and the desire to get away from unpleasantness is stronger. I'm sure I'm not alone.
