Seriously though, it’s time to end the careers of any dem chastising protestors right now. These people aren’t taking this situation with the seriousness that it requires not because they’re weak but because they support ICE and DHS doing what they designed them to do.

I say this as someone with a writing degree who spends a lot of time talking to writers. This is the product of the writerly tendency to self-isolate. It’s unhealthy and bad for the state of media about queer people.

Writers in general have a problem with writing characters that they wish existed instead of writing ones that resemble real people. A lot of people crafting queer characters want those characters to stay in the closet because they like queer people better in the closet (consciously or not)

And that’s fine. They need handholding sometimes. But if that’s the only thing we’re getting, that’s a problem. It feels like maybe this content is being written by writers (queer or otherwise) who don’t have a lot of queer friends.

There are worthwhile stories to be told there, but I think I’ve seen them already, and a lot of it seems like it’s just directed at straight people.
