Just found an old blog post by @jess.dev blog.jessfraz.com/post/the-lif... which shows some aspects.
The first version of actions was totally different than the iteration which followed. IIRC the first one was built around containers and then was replaced by mostly technology borrowed from Azure DevOps. I presume that’s the reason the runner and the workflow syntax is so similar to DevOps.
