I always thought my lifetime in the history books would be one of progress, innovation, acceptance, and freedom.

Now it feels like my lifetime will just be proof of how history is doomed to repeat itself.

I feel like every time I go to check the news, I ask myself, “how many goose steps is my country taking today?”

The fact that it always seems to be plural is heartbreaking. I want to love my country, not fear it.
