Flower garden through a rainy window.

It looks like the world has been painted with watercolors.

Nature is cruel but the birds still sing. The world is broken but beautiful still. My heart is furious and tired and longs for justice and peace. But in this moment I’ll catch my breath.

There is no bad, there is no good
I drank every sky that I could
Made myself mythical, tried to be real
Saw the future in the face of a daffodil

If you need me, I’ll be under the maple tree listening to the birds.

Sometimes ya just gotta spontaneously pack up your stuff and head to Vermont. My friend has some undeveloped land that she said I can use any time. Sleeping in the car and popping open the back to this view makes for a pretty lovely morning.

April is the cruellest month.

Saturday morning view. ☕️

Book: Night Magic by Leigh Ann Henion.

A lovely reminder about the beauty of the natural world and what we lose by fearing the dark and chasing it away with artificial light. I’m even more excited for my camping trip next month; I can’t wait to sit in the dark forest.

I am typically a hopeful person. I try to see the good in people; I try to focus on what people are doing to make the world a better place during difficult times. Today I’m having trouble seeing the light through the cloud of destruction and chaos and heartbreak that this administration is causing.

Little cutie in the grass. He froze when he saw me, so I snapped a quick photo and left so he can continue on his way.

Growing things. I started a mutual aid community for my friends/fellow local homeschool parents, hosted a seed swap today, gave away seed starting trays and gardening advice, and will offer free starter plants when they’re ready. This is just the beginning. 🌱

Having trouble finding the beauty in the world right now? I recommend all of these. They will remind you of the magic and wonder in nature, language, and yourself.

Go outside this morning, my fellow New Englanders! The air is warm and misty, the birds are singing, and everything smells of damp earth. It’s good for the soul.

Finding joy is resistance. Being kind in a cruel world is resistance. Seeing beauty is resistance.

Don’t let the bastards grind you down.

Hardly slept last night but the cold snap has broken for now and I’m drinking my coffee on the porch listening to birds singing in the warming late-winter sunshine. Holding on to the little joys in life.

Morning plans: read the news in complete horror. Read a comforting book. Drink a homemade oat milk lavender London fog latte. Choose at least one way to resist fascism and act upon it (donations? Calls? Garden planning? I’ll figure that part out after my tea.)
