getting rid of those prevents them from running away, defending themselves, and limits their climbing potential
so a lot of declawed cats become a lot more aggressive or may hide after surgery

Yes, it cause a LOT of problems in the cat's life, both immediately and later in life
I'm so glad i've never declawed my cats (even some of my furniture isn't)
Cats shouldn't really be declawed unless its medically necessary (uncommon but some problems with retracting and tumors can happen)
