The problem is many agencies are telling employers they should comply. They’ll tell employees it’s up to them then follow it up by saying they won’t provide any cover. It’s absolutely insane.

Honest question. How has AP not filed suit yet? Seems to me this is a clear violation of the 1st amendment, both freedom of the press and freedom of speech.

This is not true. Oracle hosts essentially all of the content after Project Texas in 2023. As an American company, they are also subject to the ban. If TikTok is back up, oracle has opened itself up to insane liability.

What an absolutely clownish comment.

Pointing out that you don’t understand what you’re arguing about is not “carrying water.”

Your iPhone/Mac is constantly doing on-device scanning of photos. It has for years. Nothing about this feature uploads your photos to anyone. The article explains this. The headline/post do not.
January 5, 2025 at 2:50 AM
Your photos are not uploaded anywhere without your permission. They’re analyzed on-device.
January 5, 2025 at 2:46 AM
I believe you may be having a hard time with the term “on-device”?
January 5, 2025 at 2:40 AM
What profit do you think Apple is making off of labeling landmarks in the photos on your device?
January 5, 2025 at 2:38 AM
The Photos app is scanning your photos on-device all the time. That’s why it can find pictures of you, or dogs, or trees, or whatever when you use the search function.
January 5, 2025 at 2:37 AM
Read the article. The scanning is done on-device, then de-identified and encrypted information about the specific part of the photo that might contain a landmark is sent to Apple in a way that it can’t be recreated, only analyzed to see if it’s an actual landmark. Then it sends the response to you.

We have got to stop with the idea that concussions make people crazy. It’s simply not true.
January 4, 2025 at 10:12 PM
I guess it depends on how you define “valid.” One person self-diagnosing may be accurate, but based on many years of experience as someone who professionally diagnoses mental health disorders, I can assure you that the overall validity (and, relatedly, reliability) of ASD self-diagnoses is very low.
December 23, 2024 at 9:03 PM
I see that you struggle with the definition of the word “most.” Only two things in that poll had “most” people in support, and one of those was unequivocally pro-trans.

Yes. I have made clear that I think MH providers should be paid fairly for their work. What a terrible person I am.

And you didn’t answer my question. But that’s not surprising. I imagine your answer would lay bare your facade of entitled superiority pretty quickly. 👋
November 29, 2024 at 7:51 PM
Your entire argument seems to be, “If mental health providers don’t just accept whatever insurance carriers are offering in reimbursement, no matter how low, they’re bad people.” It’s ridiculous in its face. Apparently all MH care should be provided pro bono at the provider’s expense.

Really? Do you seek out the lowest paying job in your field to keep prices down for the rest of us? Or is it only therapists that should make that sacrifice?
November 29, 2024 at 7:13 PM
While I have absolute boatloads of empathy for you and your family’s situation, I disagree that it should be on therapists, who spent time and money on a graduate degree, to accept a pittance to provide needed care. Insurance should reimburse fairly. If they did, therapists would be in network.
November 29, 2024 at 4:02 PM
I think your anger is misplaced. When therapists are reimbursed less than $80/hour, have to pay 15% of that in self-employment tax, another 20%+ in income tax, pay business costs, and spend time fighting insurance/completing insurance paperwork, they aren’t the problem. Insurance is.

Polis is my governor. He’s been a pretty good governor during his 1.5 terms, but he’s lucky he’s bumping up against term limits because I don’t think he’d stand a chance for reelection at this point. This was the most unforced of errors and reflects poorly on him as a person, if not as a politician.
