Project Monarch is using radio tags that use a Bluetooth signal to connect to smartphones to transmit their location. 30 monarchs were tagged this year. We tagged 4 more monarchs this morning and saw several more, mostly in the last 30 minutes! A big thanks to Vera for helping spot monarchs and lots of gulf fritillaries. We'll do it again this coming Wednesday 10/1 from 10am-12n, with the last nets loaned out at 11:30. Hope you can make it!

Monarch Tagging Today! 9/29 - Everything looks good so we're heading out to Seven Islands. We'll be there from 10-12 with the last nets being loaned out at 11:30. We'll be somewhere along the ADA trail, probably between the start of the lower field and the bridge. Come join us if you can!

Tagging tomorrow: Saturday, September 27th from 12-2 at Seven Islands SBP! Some of the forecasts are calling for storms after we finish, but otherwise it looks good. Check the board at the Bluebird Barn for our location, probably along the ADA trail towards the bridge. Hope to see you there!

We tagged 2 monarchs on Friday and 2 on Saturday, but we saw many more that managed to stay out of reach. The past few years it stopped raining in late August/early September and everything has dried up. This year is shaping up to be wetter, which bodes well for a longer season and more monarchs.

The monarch southward migration has started! You can track the overnight roosts at Journey North. The roosts are better indicators of the migration status because not all monarchs start migrating at the same time. maps.journeynorth.org/map/?map=mon...
