People have been asking me to draw this bird. I finally did it. A throwback to my Texas days and an absolutely stunning bird. #birds

I tell ya, my gull ID improved a lot in San Diego. This was my favorite gull species, though. Heermann's Gull. #birds

One thing I love about birding in new places is finding a bird you didn't know existed. When I saw this bird, I assumed it was a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, which is in range for San Diego.

Then it vocalized, and I learned it was a California Gnatcatcher, a species I hadn't heard of! #birds

I saw this Townsend's Warbler on a public bike path in La Jolla. As I photographed, a woman stopped me and asked what I was doing. I pointed up and said, "See the small bird with a beautiful face?"

She replies, "A beautiful face. Isn't that all anybody ever wants?" 🤣 #birds

A proud gull at Torrey Pines State Beach. My gull id is horrific, but I believe this is a Western Gull. #birds

I saw a lot of cool birds in San Diego, and I’ll share some photos over the next few days. But the coolest bird I saw was one I didn’t get a photo of.

This is the Swinhoe’s White-eye. Not my photo, but had to share it. #birds

Just your standard crow, right?

Not so fast! This here's a Fish Crow.

Generally a rarity, but we have a nice breeding population in my patch. #birds

How many bird ornaments do you have on your tree? I’m up to 11 this year thanks to this delightful woodpecker from my friend @jlwcpa2.bsky.social (alpaca for scale 🤣)

This male Northern Pintail knew I was there, but he was waiting on 3 females that didn't. He was getting pretty skittish and they were oblivious, and I could tell it was making him anxious. I backed off a bit... and then some guy showed up with a dog off-leash and flushed him smdh. #birds

Caught some Ring-necked Ducks against overcast skies the other days. Love those yellow eyes.
