Dunfermline’s pivotal home run: Play-off push or mid-table mediocrity
The next 12 days promise to be pivotal for Dunfermline Athletic, with three consecutive fixtures at East End Park likely to shape expectations for the remainder of their Championship campaign. By Michael Wood We have previously explored how the season’s trajectory becomes clearer after nine games, and what statistical markers tend to separate promotion contenders from the also-rans. For the Pars, the early signs have been steady if unspectacular: two wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening six matches, a record that currently places them fifth in a table distorted by an uneven fixture count – some sides have played five games, others six, few seven.

Last time Dunfermline Athletic played St Johnstone
Had the Pars turned over St Johnstone in the previous encounter between those sides, it would have altered the course of history and denied the Saints their best ever season. By Michael Wood St Johnstone has not traversed down the M90 to East End Park for a competitive game all that often recently. Yes, there was a 1-1 friendly draw in 2023 between Scotland’s newest cities, with Dunfermline granted city status the year previous – but who counts friendlies unless you are Pelé padding his goal record.
