Theophilus Harrington was a judge in the days of slavery, and he refused to allow it in his jurisdiction. A Vermonter, a patriot, and a man of unimpeachable values. This is the sort of person we need in seats of power today.

today's pet peeve: there is a kind of self-righteous revisionist historiography that i find immensely frustrating. yes, they're reacting to triumphalist imperialist narratives that aimed to present the past as a dark age of horror that only Enlightened Europe had escaped--

i really appreciate that pamela anderson correctly views her visit to the criterion closet as an opportunity to just clear the shelf off instead of some of these other celebs who take like 3-4 things.

This got overshadowed by fresh House drama but I think keeping AOC on the back benches was a mistake and doing oversight is frankly exactly where you want the high-profile progressives.

see this is the kind of shit you need among your elites. you need a sense of national pride that can be channeled into a productive sense of national humiliation.
in 1967, senators rfk and joseph clark took a tour of the mississippi delta. they were horrified by the sheer scale of poverty, malnutrition, and neglect.

their report caused a national scandal. the scenes haunted kennedy; he considered it the worst thing he'd seen in his life.

in these times of need we must turn to the most aging and sclerotic among the party. no positions unless you've had at least one massive health crisis in the last year, I say.

I see couples out in workout clothes, always women in leggings, men in running pants.

I think it is a shame men give up on the more comfortable clothing item because they worry people are going to look at them

This sort of democratic backsliding, where Republicans seek to overturn the effect of an election by reallocating powers away from positions they have lost, has become almost routine now. But it should remain shocking.
Heads up:

North Carolina Republicans just voted to strip the state's incoming Democratic governor and attorney general of key powers — passing a sweeping bill before the GOP most likely loses its veto-proof supermajority in the Legislature next year.
