It's neat how H. P. Lovecraft's "Cthulhu Mythos" has wormed itself into so much of pop culture nowadays. You wouldn't expect to find it in a cutesy franchise like Cardcaptor Sakura, but...

The Aralez is a winged dog spirit in Armenian mythology that would resurrect dead heroes by licking their wounds. What a good boy!

Partway through what is apparently the 1st published collection of letters by famous ghost story author M. R. James. Nothing too interesting yet; most of the letters are very brief and technical. But I haven't yet gotten to the period where he was writing fiction, so maybe it'll pick up. #booksky

Started reading the expanded collection of R. H. Barlow's work that I got for Christmas last night. Really cool to return to his world of Loth. There's even at least one direct reference to the "Cthulhu Mythos" in there ("Zotog-Ua" and Cykranosh). #booksky

With the dryer broken, we're having to air-dry everything, so parts of the house look like the old de Vil mansion from 101 Dalmatians.

You're welcome! Chambers is kind of hard to recommend horror stories for, since a lot of his works mix horror or the supernatural with humor, romance, etc. What are your tolerances for that sort of thing? lol

Some of my Blackwood favorites (read "Willows" and "Wendigo" if nothing else):

Bierce's horror and war stories were generally good, though many of the weird stories were very brief, written more like newspaper articles than stories. Of the more substantial ones, here are my favorites and some others that are of particular interest to readers of Lovecraft and Chambers.

Happened to think of it lately, so I thought I'd share Landseer’s great painting “Man Proposes, God Disposes,” on the subject of the Franklin doomed arctic expedition. It supposedly causes madness, so it fits right in on social media! #art #painting
