This is perhaps a good time to point out (educate)!!SOL was originally designed to celebrate freedom for formerly enslaved people. Its original design depicted her holding broken chains. The U.S. opposed the design. Bartholdi slyly moved them beneath her feet. The migrants from Europe came later!
