Way back on the radio dial, a fire got lit inside a bright-eyed child. Stat guy, office manager, recovering broadcaster, sports nerd.
Seems like there's a D3>D1 every year or two, so I can't imagine we had NONE of those in a 10-year span. D3>Red Line, maybe not.

There's got to be some way to search for those (the results if not the phrases), but I am blanking on what that would be.

IIRC, D2/D3 over D1 was a Black Line Upset and a Stendhal was a Black Line Upset that was also a Red Line Upset.

Which also corresponds with the shift from billiards, World's Strongest Man and NFL Films filler to ... more debate.

(And "Who's Now," whatever that was, was the same summer that Cold Pizza transitioned into 1st & 10.)

And that’s probably one of the reasons why Mike Breen has called 19 straight NBA Finals.

There is also such a thing as “the people who write the pronunciation guides care more about how much the L in Holmgren gets pronounced than Chet himself does.”

Which way is actually right? The one with the German double-S or the one without?

When I was little, I used to check which scorebugs went with the close-up of the clock versus porting the data into their bug. (Some went to the clock shot for the last minute because tenths of a second.) Now I check for things like “Officials” and “Penalty.”

@andrewvargha.bsky.social I figured you’d be the first person to like that.

CBS’s theme music was pretty sweet.

This is what I remember. A completely separate fanfare, a little bit of a drum fill segue, then dropping in at the beat that's not quite 3 seconds into this year's version.

(Sometimes that first fanfare was the "NBC, America's Olympic Network" ID.)

If I knew how to do that, I'd have tried it already. It's got to be more systematically recorded than my other example.

These things are not mutually exclusive.
