Sex, violence, and sleuthing for Thanksgiving, including...Thanksgiving.

This was more fun than I thought it would be.

Good batch this week topped by one of Kurosawa's best. Always been a fan, but somehow this is my first watch for High and Low.

Boyfriend Godzilla?

LA has never been wetter than it is in Seven. You can almost smell the mildew:

A catch-up week prepping for new entries in Now You See It and Predator series. Never been big on message movies, but Nuremberg has one that bears repeating.

Kind of a big, empty week. Better luck next Friday.

Two servings of white-knuckle fear, dead kids on the phone, and bloody chainsaws. 'Tis the season.

Nothing new. All classics this week. All great.

Good week for disturbing movies. Hangmen Also Die! is a Fritz Lang classic. 'Nuff said. A House of Dynamite has been called frightening and plausible by at least one defense expert, so it's also must-see.

Right now I'd give it to this guy:

Kind of an off week, but Jean Simmons provides a timely reminder to always check your gearshift setting before stepping on the gas pedal.

Found her!

I was bowled over by One Battle like everyone else was but can't discount a decent noir entry and a Shudder streaming binge double feature, particularly on Joe Bob Briggs day!

Only two new watches and a rewatch. Now that the Dodgers have iced the NL West, I'll be able to resume serious watching. Vertigo was the best, like visiting an old friend.

Eva Green and her gal commandos battling the Taliban won the week for me. It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.
September 19, 2025 at 8:23 PM
Giving the win this week to the Pythons. If you get a chance to see Holy Grail with John Cleese's 50th-anniversary "Not Dead Yet" celebration, take it.

Good week overall. I liked the latest Coen concoction better than most, it seems. Besides the five stars, Strangelove and Destiny have more in common than meets the eye.

Ron Howard topped the week for me. Despite a gripping story and an A-list cast, Eden doesn't seem to be getting much attention. But it's worth tracking down--if it's still playing anywhere.

The movies are back, baby! But if I had to recommend a must-see, it would be Too Big to Fail, one of William Hurt's best performances (as well as a reminder of who has the real power).
August 22, 2025 at 4:37 PM
To Kill a Wolf was the find of the week for me. Doesn't seem to be getting much attention but worth tracking down. Otherwise, Arnold/Verhoeven--but don't tell Godzilla!

We can't be reminded often enough about the horrors of nuclear warfare. The subjects in Atomic People relive those horrors vividly, eighty years later.
August 8, 2025 at 5:21 PM
Kind of a so-so week, but Eddington surprised me. Was expecting less based on advance reviews/coverage.
August 1, 2025 at 8:24 PM
More old Lang stuff and a couple of late discoveries--for me, anyway.
