We need something to transform our outcomes - our teaching is so much better than 12 months ago but a lot of these kids had a poor KS3 and that’s on us.

Just as telling is that an hour later he was saying on Times radio that what she said was racist. I am sure he hadnt actually changed or formed an opinion but rather been told to say something different.

This doesn't mean we should lower standards or downplay how important good grades are but it does mean we need more second chances and better paths for those at the left hand side of the curve.
