Fukuoka is on the island of Kyushu and the Hawks were founded in 1938. This is their 12th Nippon Series title and 21st Pacific League pennant.

Hanshin was founded in 1935, based in Nishinomiya on the island of Honshu. They’ve won only 2 Nippon Series and 7 Central League pennants despite their age.
October 31, 2025 at 4:38 AM
Hanshin was swept at home, historic Koshien Stadium built in 1924 making it the third oldest major league baseball stadium in use behind only Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914).

Tomorrow, Americans may wake up to a new Korean Series champion.

Today, the Nippon Series was decided in 5 games as the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks beat the Hanshin Tigers in 11 innings.

Hanshin won Game 1 and then was never able to generate offense against the talented Hawks pitching staff.

Memorial Stadium was finally demolished in 1992. The last vestige on campus is in the McNamara Alumni Center where the entry gate was preserved.

Eventually the back-to-campus movement won, and in 2009 the #Gophers returned to campus at 50,805 seat TCF Bank (now Huntington Bank) Stadium

Holtz left after 2 seasons but Memorial Stadium in Minnesota was doomed. It continued to deteriorate and by the early 1990s, the University built the new Aquatic Center on the field to ensure the still-bubbling back-to-campus movement couldn't continue.
October 17, 2025 at 3:41 PM
The move was controversial; alumni and many fans were opposed. The sterile environment and off-campus location were much criticized and by the early 1980s there was a firm back-to-campus movement.

But new coach Lou Holtz said he couldn't recruit southern players to play outdoors in winter.

Much like the experiment, by the late 1970s #Minnesota football was starving and a major stadium renovation was required to keep it viable. Rather than do so, the Board of Regents made the controversial decision to move #Gopher football to the new Metrodome downtown along with the Vikings and Twins

Minnesota's Memorial Stadium was also home to the Laboratory of Physiological Hygiene run by Professor Ancel Keys. From 1944-45 his lab carried out studies on starvation intended to help recovery of the millions of people affected by food shortages in World War Two. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minneso...
October 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
The stadium occasionally was also home to the Minnesota Vikings when conflicts with the Minnesota Twins rare playoff appearances happened at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. The Minnesota Kicks pro soccer team also played there periodically.
October 17, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Meanwhile, #Minnesota's football fortunes fell through the 1960s and 70s. There was little investment into the stadium aside from occasional paint and artificial turf. Removable end zone stands could bring seating to 66,000 but sitelines were poor.
