I’ve always felt that uniformed NYPD is a law enforcement agency that also does PR in a sense. They are as much a symbol of NYC as the yellow taxis and the Empire State Building. When you’re visiting, out and about, seeing them on the streets is reassuring.

It’s certainly a fair critique of the horse race commentary that we get for mainstream political analysis. Hell, if you only followed stuff at the other place, you’d have thought the exact opposite was going to happen.
