Erm yes they are both ethical issues

One thing that always strikes me about this is that if they are entitled to asylum in the UK then they are also entitled to the UK in France. Why don't they have it? The same problem in all western countries, a fundamental disavowal of their responsibilities under the Geneva convention.

The fact that 20 years on there is this desire among both elites and lay people to treat the hell unleashed by the GWOT as a remainder to be kept out of frame means we have no honest accounting of recent history and is one of the reasons mainstream parties have no answer for fascism’s return.

Put another way, giving money to an individual in such a situation helps the individual only in so much as it enables them to deny someone else the same item by offering a higher price for the good.

Money only works when things like food, shelter, sanitary supplies are freely available to be bought. Increasingly, that is not the case in Gaza. I am of the opinion that sending money to individuals when there is such scarcity of basic goods contributes to the inflation of prices.

I care deeply about these issues, have stood countless times in demos in my home town in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and donated repeatedly to organisations coordinating relief efforts. I have thought long and hard and deeply about donations to individuals. I am unsure it is helpful.

And by the way who do you think is benefiting from these inflated prices? As my guess is that in many cases it's corrupt rank and file IDF soldiers who are snuggling goods into Gaza.
