The first thing I had to write in uni that was longer than 10 pages was the bachelor’s thesis, and that got more structured supervision.

By my senior year I had worked out that I could produce about one page per hour for any writing assignment, and then it became impossible to make myself start more than N hours before the deadline. This was, as you say, unhelpful for grad school.

Yep I had to learn all about that in one of my CS classes in the 90s!

I know, but if I have to pick an answer that’s the one I give.

I had the opposite - envy at all the small kids who could be trusted to ride bikes down the sidewalk and stop at road crossings, while I couldn't make my kids begin to comprehend it. Still can't quite, with the 7yo

I had to get into the high school club of weirdos before I ever heard of him, so I guess my parents weren’t in the bubble. But everyone else in the world surely is.
