OK look. For the actual Left: let's not kid ourselves about USAID. It doesn't (didn't?) exist as an expression of compassion. It's a tool for advancing US interests abroad. Activists in (and in solidarity with) communities in the Global South have been pointing out how harmful it is for decades.
