They’re encrypted, which means they’re unreadable except by the recipient and sender. If the police get access to your phone, or sender/recipient decide to share messages, they can be read.

No, Signal and WhatsApp are end to end encrypted. No really, they are. I will not entertain conspiracy theories.

I mean, that’ll happen if someone voluntarily hands over their messages and the messages aren’t deleted. You can choose to send disappearing messages.
