It takes place in the Pacific Northwest in the early 20th century and follows Grainier who works for a railroad company. The language and imagery is beautiful and though it starts off in a cruel place, there are still tender moments. Please follow my notes as I listen to this novella.

Of course in the novels worlds past their were female magicians, but the title character were mostly dismissive of them. This was just them trap in their time and how they view gender.
