New Campaign Trail game. I played as Rutherford B. Hayes in the 1876 election and I won a much more decisive victory in the electoral college and I also won the popular vote. In real life the electoral vote was Hayes 185 and Tilden 184 and Tilden won the popular vote!

On this day in 1916 the HMHS Britannic struck a mine near the Island of Kea and sank in 55 minutes, killing 30 of the 1,066 people on board. Britannic was the largest ship in the world at the time and was the largest ship lost during the First World War!

On this day in 1958 the Carl D Bradley sank during a storm on Lake Michigan. The ship had a crew of 35 and there were only 2 survivors. 23 of the men who died were from Rogers City, Michigan which was also the Bradley’s home port.

The Arthur M Anderson was the last ship to have visual, radio, and radar contact with the Edmund Fitzgerald on November 10, 1975. The Anderson was traveling down Lake Superior with the Fitzgerald running about 10 or so miles behind the Fitz.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. On November 10, 1975 the Edmund Fitzgerald sank during a storm on Lake Superior. All 29 crew members were lost. The Fitzgerald is the largest ship to ever sink in the Great Lakes.

It’s Edmund Fitzgerald season. November 10th is the 50th anniversary of the sinking. When the Edmund Fitzgerald was launched in 1958 she was the largest ship on the Great Lakes and she remains the largest ship to have ever sank in the Great Lakes.

Violet Jessop was a stewardess and nurse who has a connection to all 3 of White Star Line’s Olympic Class ships. She was onboard the RMS Olympic when it collided with the HMS Hawke in 1911, she survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic and she survived the sinking of the HMHS Britannic!

On this day in 2015 the SS El Faro an American flagged container ship sank during hurricane Joaquin while en route from Jacksonville, Florida to San Juan, Puerto Rico. All 33 crew members were lost.

3 days before the 1936 presidential election there was a poll that said that Alf Landon would win! The poll was done by the Literary Digest and not only did it say that Landon would win but would win decisively! Yeah the Literary Digest doesn’t exist anymore because of how wrong they got this!

This is the result of the 2022 Iowa State Auditor election in which Rob Sand won a 2nd term. He won statewide as a Democrat in a year where Republicans won all the other statewide offices and he won 3 of the 4 congressional districts in Iowa.

The MV Derbyshire was a British ore/oil carrier that sank with all hands lost during Typhoon Orchid on September 9, 1980 while en route to Japan with a load of Iron ore. The Derbyshire is the largest British registered ship ever lost at sea!

The Estonia was a car/passenger ferry that carried passengers and their vehicles across the Baltic Sea from the country of Estonia and the Country of Sweden. On September 28, 1994 the ship capsized and sank during a storm. 852 of the 989 people aboard lost their lives.
