I'm surprised no one has mentioned Wallace Stevens, who is arguably the greatest Modernist of all and also a legit fascist whose worldview seeps into much of his (frankly brilliant) work

This is what it always comes back to. I cringe whenever I hear someone spout this. (And there is a strong possibility that someone will come into these comments and say "Well, actually not EVERY kid is cut out for...")

Absolutely! I have wondered how such a complex artistic mind could be reconciled with his worldview. But then I read stuff like "Anecdote of the Jar", for example, and it maybe makes some sense, lol
