TO DROWN A MAN and WHEN FIRE SPLITS THE SKY
@UnsolicitedP. Work in @FrictionSeries, @Asimovs_SF. Best of Net/Rhysling Nominee
Tonight's film is THE SEVENTH SEAL, probably my favorite of the semester. What's not to love? Medieval fantasy. Spiritual haunting. Death-obsession. Yes, yes, and yes, please.

Reposting this for the morning. Come on friends, looking for some good YA resources and advice!

Had an almost fully-formed novel idea fall into my lap yesterday. Only, it's #YA (fantasy), which I've never tried before.

Finally getting around to #RingsOfPower season 2 and it’s…a show to watch on the treadmill. Could be worse, but could be a whole lot better too. And man, even as a lifelong #Tolkien fan, Amazon should have stuck with #WheelofTime instead

Still not sure what I’m feeling about this book (though I’m curious enough to try the Netflix adaptation). But it does an incredible job of using section breaks as propellant. A twist, a curve, a poetic reflection that lifts the prose beyond everything else surrounding it

If you offered me the choice between a three day stomach bug and getting shot in the leg I would…think about it

Having taught Oedipus for 12 years, and repeatedly doubting it could work in a modern setting, this seems poised to prove me wrong!

You’re 15. You’ve ridden a donkey for months and people are already trying to kill the baby you just had a frikkin barn. Then these two bust in and start playing DRUMS at you while rapping about chinchillas. I love this season.

Super happy I finally picked up THE WILL OF THE MANY by James Islington, and just in time to preorder the sequel! Smart, original, and compulsively readable. The final act is a blast

Almost two years in, I'm still doing 1,000 words a day, only now splitting that between 2 brand-new projects. A fun way to keep moving forward while still giving my subconsciousness time to do its work formulating early-stage ideas!

Obviously, every project has its own gestation, a unique process with its own ebbs and flows. But EVERY TIME - there's something suddenly toothy and solid when it crosses the 100 page mark

Received an AI-generated email today complimenting the synopsis of a book that wasn’t mine, and offering scammy paid promotion. After firing back a maybe-sharp email, I received another AI-generated apology for the mistake. Just...sigh. The entire exchange felt like a Radiohead song.

Closing in on the end of book 8 of #Malazan, reaffirming my belief that this is one of the most stunning-realized pieces of literature ever written, genre and time aside. Remember reading a review that said Erikson did for this fantasy world what Faulkner did for Yoknapatawpha and, honestly, yes.

After finally watching KPop Demon Hunters with my kids, realizing how much I LOVE titles that just lay out the entire premise. Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. Snakes on a Plane. Swamplandia! Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (no notes on that one, title-wise).
