X-Men 138, bought off the rack in 1980 as a kid. It was the epilogue to the Dark Phoenix Saga, arguably the biggest storyline in the book's history. It served as a recap of the entire series to that point.
I didn't manage to become a regular reader till the Brood arc a few years later though.
