Hypertrending is *very* cool. I think there's so much you can do with the core idea of a social network where "a place" is the primary object. (We recently added Polls, for Reddit-style voting on questions like: "Best coffee in London?"). Would love to stay in touch as we both keep building.

Oh and I want this to be gamified, but cute and light. Like... each challenge is a Quest, and I earn XP when I complete it. Real 80s/90s RPG vibes. 😅 Curious—are you thinking of building something? Or just looking for something like this?

I think the food passport is best for travelers to foreign destinations. I'm in PDX—a better checklist here would be to hit specific restaurants, for example, all emerging chefs. I keep thinking about the seasonal list idea too. Like: "Have little kids in the city? 10 winter things to do w/ them."

In the Notion doc, the dishes were generic (Tonkatsu, Udon, etc.), but I added a way for her to document where she got each dish. I could see both being interesting. If it were generic dishes and folks filled in where they got them, you could use the data to crowdsource "best ramen in Tokyo".

Please do! Would love any/all feedback. Recently moved to PDX, but I still have a place in Denver. I'm back every quarter or so—would be fun to catch up next time I'm in town.

Another spin on this... a food passport, like "try all 30 of these dishes next time you're in Japan." I built something like this in Notion for my sister on her last trip—she had a ton of fun seeking out more unique dishes she wouldn't have otherwise tried.

Wow! Thanks for the kind words. Agreed on the difference, and I like the idea of "checklists for inspiring you to do...". We have food weeks in PDX (pizza week, etc.) run by a local pub that remind me of this. Could see seasonal lists "everything to do before the holidays in NYC" being popular.

Inspo behind North was to bring back some of the place discovery and organization magic from 4SQ in the 2010s. So, obviously—credit where credit is due, good sir. 🙏

We've got a small team building a new app called North, designed around the use-case of building, saving, and sharing lists of places. We've just started doing editorial lists like this (north.industries/list/87587d6...). Love the idea of gamifying these as a checklist though. We should do that.
The Edit: Paris - Curated List of Places - North
The top spots in Paris, according to our editorial team. There are zero misses on this hit list in the city of love. - created by North
