Went thru this for the last ~2 yrs. It was like pulling off a bandage in an event horizon. Last hope was working on an indie game -- it folded bc of extenuating circumstances. Felt like a sign to try something new, something that wouldn't make me miserable+insecure the way gamedev has for 5+ yrs

Lmao yes they conveniently leave out the numerous militias and vigilante Mormon gangs that straight up terrorized people into converting etc etc

Yeah once you tell ppl to look into the Mormon Extermination Order and actually learn abt why they are intentionally so insular and have historically been huge fucking weirdos it changes things lol

Granted this is just historicity but I think the Mormons attempts at creating essentially their own nation-within-a-nation set the bar for their priorities early on and influenced their later insulation very significantly.

Quakers were involved in prosocial movements and tangibly influenced abolitionist attitudes early on in the US... Mormons engaged in expansionist campaigns, killed a TON of people, which lead to states fearing them + creating things like the Mormon Extermination Order....very different histories.

I decided to give up on games indefinitely this year after spending a year applying to every job I could find. Just didn't feel worth the constant insecurity and pressure anymore.
