At some point during April 30th, 5th Officer Lowe visits the Italian embassy in Washington DC. He signs a declaration stating that, he wishes the word 'Italians' in his testimony to be replaced by 'immigrants belonging to latin races.' #Titanic

The last member of the #Titanic's roster to head home was Harold Bride. He last appeared before the US Inquiry on May 4th and left New York on the SS Baltic five days later, arriving in Liverpool on the 18th.

Eliza Gladys, better known as Millvina, would live to the age of 97, passing away on the 98th anniverary of the Titanic's launch. She was the last survivor, and her ashes were scattered at the ship's old berth in Southampton.

While working in a Southampton Shipyard in later life, Bert met a fellow survivor who had been in the same lifeboat; 'You must have been the little boy,' he told him. Bert Dean would pass away aged 81, on April 14th, 1992, the 80th anniversary of the collision.

Also on board the Adriatic was Eva Dean and her young children Bert and Eliza. They were returning to England after the head, Bert Sr. perished in the sinking.

The days events concluded, Ismay and the crew were free to return to England. They would leave New York on the White Star Liner Adriatic on May 2nd and arrive in Liverpool on the 11th. In contrast to his treatment in America, Ismay would be greeted with applause on his arrival. #Titanic

To close the session, Gracie briefly returned to elaborate on a comment he had made regarding his sightings of fellow 1st class passengers Archibald Butt, Clarence Moore and Francis Millet on the #Titanic.

One of these crew was assistant 2nd steward Joseph Wheat who was called to give evidence at the British Inquiry. There were two watertight doors on F deck in the area of the Turkish bath; he closed the inside door but to shut the outside one, he went up to E deck.

The crewmen had no luck turning the plate and went to try another one (though it is not clear if they meant another wrench). Margaret Brown also saw the incident and said the crew treated the incident with levity.

Harder was to talk of an incident when he went down to his cabin and saw four or five crewmen with a wrench. They were trying to turn a plate in the floor which would close the watertight door on the deck below.

Her husband Dickinson was the next witness. His wife had provided all the salient information, but he did offer one thing relating to the watertight compartments on E deck. The information came from George Harder, who would provide testimony the following week.

Mrs Helen Bishop, another 1st class passenger, briefly testified. She had been awakened by her husband saying that the ship had struck something but going on deck, they saw nothing and a steward told them they were was nothing to worry about and that they had only struck a little piece of ice.

While he was at another part of the ship, there was one incident that deviated from calm. Lightoller told him that some steerage passengers tried to rush boat D and he fired off his pistol to get them out. #Titanic

Gracie was also present when Colonel Astor was separated from his wife. Astor was denied entry to look after his pregnant wife but asked for her boat number so that he could find her later. #Titanic

He had been present when the attempt to coerce Ida Straus into boat 8 was made. Mr Straus didn't want to be made an exception to 'women and children only' and that he would share his fate with the other men.

Moody prevented men from passing a line to a lifeboat and Gracie passed four of his lady friends through (though he was later alarmed to find two of them still on deck towards the very end; he them - Mrs Brown and Miss Evans - to a boat but the latter would not survive the night).
