The billion-dollar arena Edmonton built for Daryl Katz (a billionaire, owner of the Edmonton Oilers hockey team) and the Oilers Entertainment Group so they could profit while the plebs pay for it. The city just voted to give him a giant chunk of money AGAIN & I'm very, very bitter about it.

It turns out we were correct and they were stealing our water and continued to use the sewer after they knew it was plugged. Thankfully because of that we were able to get access behind the fence and shut off the water. But now, with their sewage backing up, they've started pumping it around their compound - and even near the ball diamonds outside of the compound where our kids used to play. It's heartbreaking and infuriating. I can't believe we're still here, with no real help, no protection and no answers - just more waiting and more promises from people who say they care. Instead of getting the support we need, I'm writing this Facebook post and hoping someone out there sees it. Maybe enough people will share this. Maybe the right people will finally notice and do something. Who knew pumping sewage into town property, shining blinding lights onto a highway, and threatening execution was allowed? I guess when it's a small town with a population of 120 it's ok? Richmound used to be a wonderful place to live. Please share this post and help us make it that way again. Agreed, so hard. The courts will not save us. The non-profit industrial complex definitely will not save us.

WE will save us: through solidarity, community-building, lifting up those pushed to the bottom, etc. What are you able to do to connect with yourself and those you love today?
We cannot depend on, for example, courts to maintain what we think is the true incarnation of our civil rights. The only thing that defends those is us defending them. So instead, looking at what resources we have within, the primary resource being people, other human beings that we have real personal relationships with and building strategies to take action in that way, that needs to be the big shift. If there is a positive shift that could happen right now, it’s shifting away from the idea that, for example, the nonprofit-industrial complex is the place in which change happens, and instead bringing it back to the personal level. THIS. This is what's bothered me so much about the lack of union pushback in Alberta and esp with Gil McGowan at the head of the AFL for 20 years, with nothing to show for it.
Jason Schilling at the ATA, the nurses, AUPE, etc.
When strikes DO happen, they aren't supported with solidarity!
When Trump is attacking, for example, the labor movement and trying to erode the base of the entire worker’s struggle, there’s no negotiation that’s going to help you to maintain the standards of living for the people those unions negotiate for. That’s simply not how it works. You’re going to have to fight and dismantle those attacks. But if you’re not prepared to fight, then there’s really nothing that you can expect to receive on the other end of it other than to maybe slow the process of destruction.
