For more reader engagement, you absolutely can put a question or two in the end notes and ask the readers' thoughts on random things (casually, not in a desperate way, play it cool and so will readers) and of course giving detailed answers/engaging in comments and starting a comment thread there

It is not your writing! On tumblr, I think ao3commentoftheday has talked in the past about how to deal with imposter syndrome and insecurity about fic and stats, so I can recommend going there. You are not alone in feeling insecure about how your readers find your fic!
