You can even put a bigger couch against the longer wall and trade the credenza for a coffee table or a shorter tv stand/cabinet and still have lots of room. I am a huge fan of platform beds. They create so much more space, and space is freedom!

The front door to my flat would be right at the foot of the ladder, with my tiny bathroom between the kitchen and door. There was a small magazine rack on the wall by the ladder, which was actually at the other end of the bed. The entire apartment was 10 m², but I had plenty of room with this setup.
