not quite true. he was appointed by the republican before waltz and then got re-appointed as the incumbent by waltz. likely because that role is not very scrutinized.

the planes can fly on one engine for an extended period of time and are certified to do this. compressor stalls like this are a somewhat common occurrence if you read up on aviation. the door thing was 100% on boeing though and a pretty shit design at that.
