I've never used speedpaints before, as I saw them as nothing more than expensive coloured washes.

While I can confirm that they are indeed expensive coloured washes.. they're also op as fuuuuck!
A photograph of a Battletech miniature (Warhammer) that has had a coat of blue speedpaint applied. On parts of the model you can still see the undercoat and base shading showing.
