Decided to bring on the heat this morning with my fermented chilis -- a honey jalapeno-cayenne and an extra hot cayenne-banana pepper concoction. Should be enough to get me through winter...or become handy holiday gifts. I haven't decided yet 🤔

This week's science experiments in Farmer Farley's kitchen: two types of fermented hot sauce and a ginger bug for a batch of ginger beer (non-alcoholic, sorry to disappoint anyone 😁)

Today's #foraging gift from nature during this morning 's dog walk. Winner, winner chicken dinner...chicken of the woods that is (wah wah) #agrihood #homesteading

Exhausted after removing weeds and hauling tons of soil, but all the blueberries and raspberries are planted with about a dozen more strawberry plants to go...and it's rabbit-proof this year! #homesteading #gardening

I think we're done with the polar vortices for the year here in northern Wisconsin. Cold nights remain, but it's a perfect time to get some things started in the greenhouse - excited to try bok choy and collards (I find myself missing my Florida garden some days) #gardening #homesteading

Woke up to more snow, so not much agrihooding today. However, perfect for zoomies and a quiet afternoon by the fire reading and planning this year's garden.

Latest DIY project coming along. Starting missing my students after retiring last May and decided to turn the shed into a studio for online teaching...also keeps me constructively busy during these arctic temps. May post video of this latest learning experience when complete. #Homesteading #Edusky

Stella and I went for a chilly winter solstice walk on the trail this morning and saw plenty of rabbit and deer tracks -- no bear tracks, but I was attacked by a yeti at the end of the video...so be careful out there, friends, and Happy Winter Solstice!

My neighbors thank you :). The only exception I find on the list is the elderberry. I know it states deer résistant not necessarily deer proof, but twice they stripped nearly all the leaves...they're now all fenced in.

After that recent power outage and -7 degree wind chill day, I decided to move my latest DIY project to the top of the priority list...may upload a YouTube video when done. #TheOutpost #Homesteading

Struggling to readjust to the cold after spending the past 25 years in Florida, but currently experiencing the joy from freshly fallen snow through Stella.

View from the pothole trail on the St Croix River taken several weeks ago. I've always found restoration in nature. Although community is especially important in these times, it's essential to remember to occasionally unplug and attend to our mental well-being. #nature

I have been reading up on mushrooms and foraging, so I was excited to see a couple of instances of what I believe to be turkey tail mushrooms during our morning hike...any experts out there feel free to correct me and/or offer any recipes.
