Aspiring VFX artist, Video Colorizer, and making New Doctor Who look like it was shot in the 70s or on 16mm at least, among other things
I'm guessing this is to do with "The Interstellar Song Contest"

Surprisingly close to my ranking, though I have a nostalgic soft spot for "Phantom Menace" personally. "Last Jedi" is unfairly overhated.

I am in the middle of it, yes

You may not be Douglas Camfield, but that lighting is otherwise gorgeous, definitely better lighting and cinematography than New Who since at least 2018, but that's just my film supremacy and bias toward practical filmmaking talking.
November 13, 2025 at 7:15 PM
That is a completely fair point, and I think you've done a great job with the animation thus far.
November 13, 2025 at 7:14 PM
Fair enough. I've admittedly developed a view that if reanimating an episode with surviving audio, it would be fitting to emulate a style and medium from the time. For example: The Space Pirates as a Supermarionation show shot on 35mm film. But otherwise great work, I'm looking forward to Part 2.

I have just finished watching Part 1 of the animation, and I have to say I'm enthralled. My only real criticism is that I'm not sure if the original audio fits with such high quality visuals. It would probably benefit with a rescore and fresh voice cast.

I did a test from one of the newer episodes where I tried to paint on stylised lighting to look better under the film emulation effect. I can't tell if I made it better or worse though.

The Film Emulation effect is usually dependent on how well the lighting looks in a scene. It's why the Chibnall and Neo-RTD episodes generally don't work well due to the lighting looking very flat most of the time.

Some screencaps:

It could also further increase the chances of a Season 4 Collection set, in spite of The Highlanders still being missing
November 7, 2025 at 4:40 PM
It would guarantee a Season 11 Collection Set at least
November 7, 2025 at 1:20 PM
Eh, as long as it can air over Xmas on BBC Four it's fine with me
November 7, 2025 at 12:45 PM
Same, though I feel like fans might be getting their hopes too high about what stories have just been found. I'd be excited to see Ben and Polly's first time in The Tardis

When Ruby was first announced, I actually anticipated her to be a historical companion from the 60s, but no she was just another Present Day girl. And with Disney on their side, the BBC have no excuse of sticking to the status quo after 20 years.

Lucky Day was fine if you ignore the muddled messaging. I just want someone who'll move away from the Post-2005 formula. No more present day companions, no more mystery boxes, and no more bombastic Murray Gold style scores for example. Doctor Who needs to change, otherwise it'll get even more stale
November 5, 2025 at 10:13 AM
Realistically, I think Pete McTighe is likely being groomed to be the new showrunner once the Neo-RTD Era ends, which isn't exactly promising given his run of episodes. I personally think it should be someone fresh who isn't a hardcore fan, or a collective team of writers.

I've seen "Adolescence" and it was quite a powerful and thought provoking series. That said, I can't exactly imagine Thorn writing for Doctor Who
November 5, 2025 at 9:55 AM
I think the Whittaker Era had the right idea with their formula shake ups, but I can't help but wish it had changed Doctor Who even more radically than whenever the Classic Era revamped itself, moving away more from present day companions and universe ending finales. It was just missing something.

I think the unwillingness to move on from this formula played a big part in New Who's stagnation. Eventually things got stale, and the few times the formula tried to be shaken up wasn't enough to make it radically different from before.

I've been wanting a 70s Rockstar for a companion for ages
