Becoming Led Zeppelin
I have parents with very different tastes in music. I would end up becoming a drummer largely because I have a father who blasted Zeppelin often.

If you’ve been a fan, or are a person who wants to share this group with another, go to the Becoming Led Zeppelin doc in theaters.

He may be racing to become a teenager, but it makes me happy that he still loves stories about heroes who inspire hope.

25ish years ago, I watched a pickup on 77 south hit the median & flip in front of me. I pulled over fast & ran to help its driver. The fact that a person in Philadelphia would film someone on fire walking out of the crash rather than help them turns my stomach & makes me weep for the days ahead.

Revisiting The Last of Us season one. In episode three, Nick Offerman delivers quite possibly the best guest appearance of any show of all time. Soul crushing and beautiful all at once. One of the greatest hours of television, ever. Damn.

I’ve learned that friends who are willing to not only support me, but also challenge me is what takes the bonds of friendship and forges them into steel.

Rest in Peace, Carl. (3/3)

Rocky loses to “The Count of Monte Fisto” Apollo Creed.

While Carl Weathers didn’t have the luxury of playing the title character, he stole the film…while keeping the heavyweight title.

The older I get the more the Rocky / Apollo friendship means to me. (2/3)

Show someone who knows nothing about the Rocky franchise the first film and ask them what they think will happen. They’ll likely tell you that Rocky will somehow find a way to win and learn to be a successful boxer.

Spoiler alert for a near 50-year-old film—that’s not what happens. (1/3)

I first remember seeing you in Glory and was often spellbound by your performances. Rest in peace, Andre Braugher. Damn. 61 feels a lot younger than it used to.

Grant comes upstairs to the living room from the basement where Stephanie and I are watching a movie…
Grant: “Whatcha watching?”
Stephanie: “Die Hard.”
Grant: “Isn’t that a Christmas movie?”
Tim: “YES! It is kid, it really is.” (Puts hand out for Grant to hit the rock.)

Just got back from a special screening of the 4K restoration of The Abyss. It was great to see this film on the big screen again.

Now viewing films from my youth through the lens of a husband, father—hell, even as a man in his 40s, shapes my reactions to films—like this one—in new ways.

I remember it like it was twenty minutes ago. Parking on snowy Liberty St and heading into Freedlander’s Department store. Hands covered in snow-covered mittens…and a wish in my heart. Climbing that stairwell until that magic moment—Santa.

May the season feel like magic and fill you with joy.

Headed to the mainland today (wearing my Browns pullover). Guy at the Wilmington Costco said, “Hope you know; Steelers are gonna win that one today.”

My response was, “Good luck.”

Take that, Costco guy. It’s taken them the last 24 years…but my team finally learned how to close out games.
