I live in the neighborhood and had no idea what Ely Ave is or where it could possibly be until I finally dug around. 23rd st was the new name for Ely Ave when Queens started numbering streets. In 1915. Also, it’s been Court Sq since 2011.

Remember before the 2010s when we didnt have a term for “soap opera strips”? The exasperation I felt in 2005 when I would try to describe Apartment 3G to my family and friends, but simply didn’t have the vocabulary. Thank you, Josh.

I also know @ellenadair.bsky.social’s Hess Truck jingle well. But I heard it as a kid so I warm and fuzzy memories of it. Though I dont dispute any of her points.

I’m only part way through- @mollyknight.bsky.social’s John Wilkes Booth pick makes Sepinwall sense because April 14, 1865 was Good Friday.

I literally only learned about black cowboys from Bruce Springsteen’s 2005 song Black Cowboys and his pre-song preamble about their history during the tour for that album. It is incredible how America history education has excised so many Americans.

Wow, looks like there‘s nothing south of the basin between 45th and 46th.

Moldova, as I recall. Facebook political ragebait farms by teenagers on Moldova who found pro-Trump Posts got engagement while pro-Hillary ones didnt really. So great that there is zero incentive for this to stop in any way.

I read The Right Stuff this summer. I bought it maybe 10 years ago and kept putting it off because of the length. I devoured it so fast because it is just so good.

Lord you’re right. I don’t know why 60s came out of me. That’s probably early 50s. in the mean time, I’ve always tried to figure out “The Original Ha Cha Inn”

I live in western Queens. I can look out my window and see all the way to the Hudson side of Manhattan. This is a photo from the 60s hanging in my neighborhood . it takes rough weather to make the ESB this obscured today:

I learned this at 17, worked in a video store. The Green Mile had just been released and I overheard a mother and her maybe 12 yo son discuss it:
mom: what’s this movie about
Son: oh i heard shot it. It’s about a guy who didn’t do it and another guy believed him.
mom: Well, I don’t want to see that.

Counter point: he is insufferable there, too. It’s harder to notice, because most of the WWE broadcast crew is also awful.

Of the thousands of comics books I have read in my life, the scene where Jean comforts Jubilee regarding Ilyana’s death is one that has stayed in my brain since I read it. It ordered the concept of grief and mourning to my young brain like few things ever have.

But remember how he ended the war in Ukraine during his first day in office?

It’s 100% of the screen time. You can see her eyes in one scene with Isaacs, but she never had her face unobscured.

She has no integrity. Anyone with a shred of integrity would have refused to be nominated by a historically unpopular president to Ginsburg’s seat a month and change out from an election. But, like Gorsuch, happy to consume their ill-gotten gains. So many SCOTUS Catholics, so little guilt.

John Glover as the Riddler is beyond percect. Absolutely would have worked in live action. A trillion times superior to Jim Carrey.

We’d also stay after school with her to change out her seasonal decorations. I highly doubt my family was unique in any of this.

My mother was a catholic school first grade teacher (lower pay than public school teachers). My brothers and I would go to teacher supply stores during the summer where she’d buy her decorations and help get the classroom ready for the new school year.

My six year old got the whole dogman box set for christmas and, conservatively, has read all 13 or whatever books five times a piece, and then she learned about the catkid spin off. She genuinely consumes them faster than she eats actual food.
