I just had occasion to go to One America News Network's page. What happened to them? I thought they were going to be the further-right Fox, but it looks like a cheap conservative news aggregating blog. The white headline font is terrible.

People are a little confused by the University of Arizona's squishy reaction to the Trump administration's proposed compact. I think this information helps explain it.

Click the link and read the column for more info.

Perhaps the most succinct way of putting this point:

NEW: Now you can read the letter sent by 80 University of Arizona regents professors, in which they dissected the Trump administration's proposed "compact" with the UA and recommended against it. No paywall.

J.D. Vance promoted and blurbed a 2024 book titled "Unhumans" that was about the American left and how to crush them.

I canceled Disney Plus today, over Disney's capitulation to the Trump administration on Jimmy Kimmel, just like I canceled Paramount Plus a few months ago, over CBS' corrupt deal to facilitate the Paramount-Skydance merger. I l told them why. It's not much, but it's something.

The Jimmy Kimmel fiasco, coming after others like CBS/Paramount, shows we need national news outlets with minimal exposure to the federal government. No FCC licenses, no mergers needing approval, no federal contracts, not even nonprofit tax status. Nothing that can be used as leverage by the feds.

Quite the sunset tonight in Tucson.

"The media" has got to be the dumbest phrase people commonly use. This occurred to me this morning when I saw this headline, "How The Media Normalized Nick Fuentes." If you don't include some modifier like "news" or "legacy" or "online" or "right-wing" the phrase "the media" is meaningless.

The Fiesta de San Agustin was the annual celebration of Tucson's patron saint. It petered out sometime in the 1900s, but before that it was one of the biggest parties of the year. Here's how our paper, then the Arizona Weekly Star, described preparations in 1883.

It’s so hot out in Tucson. I can’t imagine how they used to hold the Fiesta de San Agustin this time of year every year, outside at a park.

Today is the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the Tucson Presidio. In a way, it's Tucson's 250th birthday, but it's also much older, because there was a Tohono O'odham village here before. I argue today the Presidio's links to New Spain in the south still make Tucson different.

At a public meeting in Tucson, hundreds of people have shown up, largely to oppose a massive data center project known as “Project Blue.” Lots of shouting over the speakers. A spontaneous chant of “Where is the mayor?” just broke out. Mayor Regina Romero is not here.
August 5, 2025 at 1:05 AM
Data centers are a tool of the tech oligarchy in their manic race to AI supremacy. They are being supported in this by the Trump administration and in turn are supporting the Trump administration in its consolidation of authoritarian power. Their tools could be turned against us.
August 3, 2025 at 1:33 PM
In today's column, I tried to make an argument about data centers that takes in more of the global economic and cultural dynamic they represent. Data centers are symbols of a vision of the future, and a power structure, that we ought to recognize and bring to heel.

Waited a lonnnnnng time to see CD 7 Dem candidate Deja Foxx speak at a rally at Hotel Congress in downtown Tucson. David Hogg introduced her to a crowd of maybe 150-plus. I dunno…. she’s good at her speech and makes the same handful of points with skill, but it all leaves me feeling kind of empty.

5/ I especially liked the twist related to the economic program that Grandin pointed out. He's not so enamored of the "caudillo" comparison.

1/ A few months ago, a friend and I were talking by a fire outside about how Trump is making the United States government more like a traditional Latin American strongman government -- not the first to notice this. The twist: He's doing it while trying to kick out the Latin Americans.
July 8, 2025 at 3:20 AM
I took my stand. I told Paramount I'm canceling because they undermined American journalism by caving in to bribe demands from Donald Trump.
