Was in DC this morning - on business completely unrelated to TACO's ego trip - and grabbed a few images. The rest are sadder.

A little context for those not in the DC area: that parade route is *one* mile. At $45 million (probably more), that works out to be about $8500 per foot. I'm also wondering where they put all that equipment when it reaches the end of the route. There's not a lot of parking in that area. :-)

Anyone who believes their retirement accounts "made money" yesterday needs to take a slightly longer look. No one profits from this chaos, including the clowns running the circus.

"This is a truly self-inflicted disaster, based on ideology rather than economics."

Even the champions of both-siderism and "what about her emails" at the NY Times are starting to get it. Ten years too late but still a small step forward.

I wonder how long before information like this is forcibly removed, from museums, textbooks, websites, in the name of "truth" or "uncertainty".

Apple Maps still knows where the Gulf of Mexico is. I wonder for how long.

When it comes to TikTok, this editorial cartoon pretty much says it all.

Here are a couple of panda pictures to maybe brighten the day a little.

DC-area forecast for Monday's ceremony is appropriate: stupid cold!

Regardless of who is being inaugurated, it's a really dumb idea to do it outside in January. Has no one thought of renting the arena? Probably would be much less expensive as well.

Posting this picture from a few years ago to remind people to clean off the top of your vehicle before you go racing around the beltway. And just because you drive a big-ass SUV don't think there isn't an even bigger-ass SUV driving ahead of you that can do this to yours.

First real snow storm in three years for us (Franconia area of Fairfax County, VA). The table on the deck showed 8 inches at 9am, with more on the way.

Ballot came yesterday. Ballot sent today. Office of Elections will let me know when it arrives and is counted. Easy. Secure. Still plenty of time to vote early and by mail, Virginia!

Ballots have arrived! Will be marked and in the mail by tomorrow. So excited to do my small part to make President Harris and VP Walz happen!

In our seats for Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me, our only Wolf Trap visit of the summer. At least the jokes won’t be as painful to hear as they would have been a couple of weeks ago. :)

Connecting these two stories isn’t hard. Evidence of a major problem on the left. Evidence of a lack of will to address that problem on the right. The cars keep winning indeed. #pairedtexts

For Mexican democracy, the @washingtonpost.com sees “warning signs”. For American democracy, they see both-sideist, horse race coverage. Everything normal.

This headline in the morning Post tells me the editor is inept or clueless. trump didn’t “float” anything. This is the same Russian-talking-points BS he’s been spouting for two years.

Biden "rejected Republican criticisms for commemorating Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday."

No. The Day of Visibility is always commemorated on March 31, which just happened to be Easter this year because that holiday stupidly bounces around the calendar. Do better @nytimes.com

Virginia primary election in March, voted today. Mail-in voting is wonderful. Easy, secure, and proven to increase participation. Should be available to everyone everywhere.

From the front page of today’s Washington Post:

One major reason Biden's team gets so little credit for their great management of the economy is that news organizations like the Post dig deep to find every possible negative story and then splash them all over their front pages.

In its newsletter The Morning, the NY Times, cites one of the lamest examples possible for controversy over speech on college campuses.

Being around unmasked classmates might have made you sick, not just "uncomfortable".

Lame!

Rather than trying to generate a panicky freakout (and a ton of likes/reposts), this is the kind of tech information we need more of from police and others in authority. Rational. Clear. With a sense of humor.

It’s Election Day! Just took our ballots to the post office.

The counties in this part of Virginia make it easy to vote early. We need to elect reps who will fight efforts by our MAGA governor to change that.

Every election is important. Vote every time!
