as well as.. Higher global efficiency in the right insular cortex (salience network hub). Our results help reconcile a decades-long debate about whether the fusiform-centered vs. early visual cortex accounts for mental imagery vividness.

Key findings:
🧠 Greater local efficiency in the left fusiform gyrus (functional connectivity) and
🔗 Enhanced segregation in occipital networks (structural connectivity)
related to increased imagery vividness...

Our model proposes that mental imagery is part of an ‘inwardly focused’ cognitive style, geared towards prioritizing attention to internal experiences like emotional awareness, and interoception. Check out our 3 page paper: sciencedirect.com/science/arti... exploring this overlap 2/2 🧵
Mental imagery as part of an ‘inwardly focused’ cognitive style
What is the source of individual differences in the experience of mental imagery? While parallels are often drawn between imagery abilities and the pe…

Our research indicates that networks optimized for localized information transfer and high interconnectedness facilitate more vivid visual imagery. Conversely, highly integrated networks might weaken the neural activity crucial for creating detailed imagery. #CognitiveNeuroscience

In our study (n=273) we used graph analysis of DTI/rs-fMRI connectomes and discovered significant correlations between network characteristics like local efficiency & clustering coefficients and the ability to generate detailed visual imagery. 🧠🔍 #Neuroimaging #BrainConnectivity
