The expedition aims to answer how the Arctic Ocean looked like during warm periods in Earth's history. Was it ice-free back then? How did the marine ecosystem change? Scientists look for clues to these questions in sediments deposited over hundreds of thousands of years on the Arctic seafloor.

Four days ago, I boarded the Norwegian icebreaker Kronprins Haakon and joined an international team of researchers lead by @bjerknes.bsky.social for an expedition in the #Greenland Sea to study the effects of #Arctic climate change on #ocean circulation.
